Mathew "Huck" Ingles, RYT

Mathew, "Huck" to his friends, is a certified and registered yoga teacher. He has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 13 years.

Currently, Mathew teaches power yoga classes at Mighty Yoga in Ithaca, Cortland Yoga Center in Cortland, NY, and he is the yoga instructor at Tompkins Cortland County Community College (TC3). He teaches workshops and promotes yoga events throughout New York State. He is also the official yoga instructor of the Ithaca SufferJets, and the director of the Finger Lakes Yoga Festival. Mathew was recently featured in an article for examiner.com.

In 1996, at 18 years old, Mathew began his path. After studying Buddhism and meditation throughout high school, he decided to leave the east coast, and  travel the country with only his backpack. Then, after his travels, he took retreat in the mountains of New Mexico in a very secluded old adobe. Miles from anywhere, with no running water and no electric, and with little to do but meditate, grow food, haul water, and chop wood. He stayed there for two years.

In 1999 he moved to Santa Fe, eager to make a change in the world. That winter, he was injured in a skiing accident, which ultimately left him with back problems, and blessed him with yoga. Months after the accident, he was gifted with a book on yoga, and a free yoga lesson from a friend.  The relief was profound, and yoga asana became part of his daily meditation practice, to ease back pain so he could sit comfortably.

In 2000 he moved back to his hometown in New York, studied Environmental Science at SUNY, and spent the next 6 years working and volunteering for non-profit organizations. He continued his studies of yoga philosophy, asana, and meditation. Ultimately, he decided the best thing he could do for the world was to pay forward what he had learned, and teach yoga.

In 2009 Mathew was Registered by the Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200,  after completing a ten month study of classical yoga, under Lauren Toolin at Heart Space Holistic, in Albany, NY. He has also had the honor to participate in workshops with great teachers like Rod Stryker, Ed Dailey, and Edwin Bryant.

Mathew's teachings follow the guidance given by the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the Bhagavad Gita. His classes are further influenced by Ashtanga, Iyengar, Viniyoga, Parayoga, and Power yoga.
