Katya Burns, CYT

Katya has been practicing and teaching yoga for 20 years. She has trained in the Sivananda and the Ashtanga Vinyasa traditions. For the past seven years, Katya has spent part of each year practicing yoga in Mysore, south India. Katya has also trained in advanced pranayama and mudra techniques, as well as in Vipassana Buddhist meditation in India and Japan. She holds a BA from Princeton University and a PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Katya lives in New York City and Mysore, India, and is building an Eco-Yoga Retreat Center in Watkins Glen, in the Finger Lakes. Katya is grateful to her many teachers including Swami Vishnudevananda, BNS Iyengar of Mysore, Swami Govindananda of Maharashtra, Richard Freeman, Sri Dharma Mittra, Patricia Waldon, Baron Baptiste, and Bhagavandas.


Yoga and Conscious Eating: A Workshop on the Ashtanga-Vinyasa Practice and a Vegan Diet

This workshop will offer a vigorous vinyasa asana class together with a dharma talk which will explain the linkages between the yoga philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence) and dietary choice. Participants will learn the fundamentals of practicing ahimsa, and the ways in which our food choices impact our yoga asana practice, our spiritual development, and the planet.
